Troy Wright Breaks Down Icarus Lives!

Having played drums since I was in the 6th grade, I am a huge fan of quality drum covers.  This drum cover of Icarus Lives! by Periphery is one of the best I have ever seen.  This is not only because Troy Wright nails it, but also because he breaks down some of more complicated drum parts in the song.  Its truly an instructional video more than a drum cover.

Periphery & Matt Halpern

peripheryI’m a huge fan of the band Periphery, recently being introduced to them by my buddy Shane Finerty.  I’ve listened to their self title debut record over and over again.  Icarus Live! is definitely one of my most favorite tracks from that album.  I’m also a huge fan of their recently released record Perpihery II:  This Time It’s Personal.  I’ve probably listened to it end-to-end at least 20 times since it came out in June.

Periphery’s current drummer Matt Halpern is truly one of the best modern drummers today.  Not only does he have extreme technical prowess, but he has really cool groove and style.  Plus he is able to do this on really small kits, sometimes with only 1 floor tom besides the basic setup of snare, kick, hit-hat and cymbals.  Matt endorses Mapex Drums check out my review of Mapex and other drum brands on Drum Brands.
