Previously, I wrote about how Between The Buried and Me (BTBAM) has become one of my favorite bands of 2012, when I discussed their latest album The Parallax II: Future Sequence. This may sound silly, but a large part of why BTBAM has become one of my favorite bands is due to this video of Blake Richardson drumming all the songs off of BTBAM’s 2011 EP The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues.
I am already very into Hypersleep Dialogues, so watching this instrumental drumming version really enhanced the experience for me. I gained an added appreciation for the complexity of the music and the technical ability of Richardson by watching this video.
Right now it is really a toss up on who my favorite drummer is. It is between Blake Richardson and Matt Halpern of Periphery. I think as of now Blake takes it simply because I appreciate the diversity he brings to his drumming as well as simply how tight he plays.
If you are a drummer you will definitely appreciate this video. If you are not, watch it to get an idea for why us metal heads love heavy music so much. You are simply not going to get this level of musicianship with anything on the radio or in the top 40.
Blake plays on and endorses TAMA drum kits and Sabian cymbals. Check out my review of TAMA Drums on Drum Brands.
